Statement
of Faith
We recognize that Jesus taught and demonstrated
the way of salvation and restoration to fellowship with God that
requires an acknowledgement:
a)
that there is one God and He desires personal, intimate relationship
with His creation;
b)
that we have sinned and alienated ourselves beyond our own ability
to be restored in relationship
with Him;
c)
that He made a way of reconciliation through the sacrificial death
of His Son, Jesus, who out of love sacrificed Himself for the eternal
redemption and life of all who believe;
d)
and that the Spirit of God indwells us as a seal and an empowerment
so that we who believe in Jesus may be the witness of His Kingdom
while we live, both here and hereafter.)
e)
God has called the disciples of Jesus Christ into community called
the Church and the Body of Christ to maintain His witness of salvation
and the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Doctrinal Consensus
We
at Jubilee acknowledge only one creed and final authority
in all matters of life, faith and practice among us, that being
the Bible.
God
We believe that God is a living, spiritual
person (John 4:24, Ex. 3:14, Duet. 6:4), Who has revealed Himself
through creation (Ps. 19:1), through conscience (Rom. 1:19,20),
through His complete, authoritative, inspired Word (2 Tim. 3:16,
2 Pet. 1:20,21), and through the person of His Son, Jesus Christ
(Heb. 1:2).
We believe that God eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son
and Holy Spirit and that these three are one God (Matt. 28:19),
worthy of the same worship, confidence and obedience (Deuteronomy
6:4; Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 12:29; John 1:14; Acts 5:3,4; II Corinthians
13:14; Hebrews 1:13; Revelation 1:35).
Scripture
We believe that all scripture is given by
inspiration of God, II Timothy 3:16, which we understand applies
to the 66 books called The Bible, in the sense that the Holy Spirit
"breathed out" the very words of the sacred writings to
holy men of God, and that His inspiration extends equally and fully
to all parts of these writings. We believe them to be the record
of God's relationship with man and the testimony of those who gone
before. We believe that the Scriptures are the supreme and final
authority in all matters of life, faith and practice (II Peter 1:20,
21; I Corinthians 2:1-33, Mark 12:26; 13:11; Acts 1:16; 2:4).
Jesus,
Son of God
1. We believe that the Father sent His Son
into the world to be born of a virgin (Is. 7:14), to live a sinless
life (Heb. 4:15), to perform mighty signs (Acts 2:22), and to be
crucified and to rise bodily from the grave on the third day (1
Cor. 15:1-4). We believe that He ascended to the Father's right
hand to be the Head of the church and to intercede for all believers
(Eph. 1:20-23) and that He is coming again to this earth, personally
and bodily, to set up His millennial kingdom (Rev. 20:1-4).
2. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God,
became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the
Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, that he might reveal God
and redeem sinful man (John 1:1; 2:14; Luke 1:35). We believe that
the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death
and the shedding of His blood on the cross as a substitutionary
sacrifice, and that our justification is made sure by His literal,
physical resurrection from the dead (Romans 3:24,25; I Peter 2:24;
Ephesians 1:6; I Peter 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ
ascended to heaven and is now at the right hand of God, where, as
our Great High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative,
Intercessor and Advocate. He is the Head of His Body, the Church
(Acts 1:9,10; Hebrews 9:24; 7:25; Romans 8:34; I John 2:1,2 ). We
believe in the Blessed Hope, Titus 2:13, as the personal and imminent
return of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
Spirit
of God
1. We believe that the Holy Spirit is one
with the Father and with the Son. He is the Comforter that Jesus
said, "the Father will send in my name." (John 14:26).
He convinces the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.
(John 16:8). He testifies of and glorifies Jesus (John 16:14). It
is the Holy Spirit who makes evil manifest. He is the precious pledge
of the continued love and care of our exalted King. He takes of
the things of Christ and shows them, as a realized possession, to
those who believe, (John 16:14). Dwelling in the hearts of believers,
(John 14:17) He opens their understandings that they may understand
the Scriptures, and becomes, our Guide, Comforter, Support, and
Sanctifier.
2. There is no spiritual light, life or holiness, inherent by nature
in the mind or heart of man only the influence of the Holy Spirit
of God. The Holy Spirit must ever be distinguished, both from the
conscience which He enlightens, and from human reason which is unable
to discern the things of God. We renounce all illumination or spirituality
that is divorced from faith in Jesus Christ.
Man
We believe that man was created in the image
and likeness of God, but as a result of the rebellion and pride
of Adam and Eve, our first parents, all men are alienated from God,
universally sinful in both nature and practice, having no possible
means of recovery or salvation and are under the righteous judgment
of God (Ephesians 2:13; Romans 3:22,23; 5:12; Ephesians 4:18; John
8:42-44; Mark 7:21-23).
Salvation
1. We believe that salvation is the gift of
God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ; that salvation is not merited nor earned in part
or in whole by any virtue or work of man; that the forgiveness of
our sins was accomplished by the work of Christ through the shedding
of His blood on the cross; that all true believers have salvation
as a present possession, sonship in the family of God, and every
spiritual resource for life and godliness (John 3:16; 6:28, 29;
Titus 3:5; I Peter 1:18,19; John 1:12).
2. We believe that all those once born again by the Spirit of God
are kept by God's power alone and are thus secure in Christ forever
(John 5:24; 6: 37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 35-39; I Peter 1:35).
3. We believe that the saved by faith in Jesus should live in such
a way as not to bring reproach upon their Saviour and Lord; that
separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures
and practices, and all wicked associations is commanded by God (II
Timothy 3:15; Romans 12:1,2, 14:13; I John 2:1517; II John 9:11;
II Corinthians 8:7-13; Philippians 2:12,13).
4. We believe that it should be the desire of all believers to practice
good works in obedience to the Word of God. These good works have
no part in salvation, but are manifestations of our love for God
and a demonstration to the world and evidence of our inward change
of heart ( I Corinthians 3:11-16; II Corinthians 5:17; I Corinthians
6:12-20; Colossians 3:17; I Corinthians 12:31; Matthew 5:16; I Corinthians
8:7-13; Philippians 2:12,13).
The
Church
1. We believe that all those who are born
again by the Holy Spirit are members of the Body of the Lord Jesus
Christ, into which all true believers are baptized immediately by
the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:4, 5:25-32; Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:47;
I Corinthians 12:12,13). We believe that all the various members
of this one spiritual Body should assemble themselves together in
local churches for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, united
testimony and the observance of the ordinances of our Lord (Hebrews
10:25; Acts 2:41-47).
2. We believe that the church is an organism - a local group of
baptized believers (Acts 2:41, 47, Eph. 4:11-13) with a diversity
of gifts, yet singleness of purpose - seeking the following:
1. To glorify God through personal and public worship (Rom. 15:6).
2. To edify believers through service, fellowship, and teaching
(Eph. 4:12).
3. To foster the planting of new churches
4. To evangelize the world through organized and spontaneous witness
(Matt. 28).
5. To keep our lives pure (Eph. 5:26,27, James 1:27b) through personal
examination
(1 Cor. 11:28-31) and public accountability (1 Cor. 5:6,7,13).
3. We believe that God the Holy Spirit is sovereign in the bestowing
of all His gifts. He has given talents, abilities, skills and grace
to each believer for the building up of the church. He has given
gifted men to the church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors
and teachers for the edifying of the saints and the work of the
ministry.
Prayer
We believe that God does answer prayers of
faith, in accord with His own will, for those who are sick and afflicted
(John 15:7; I John 5:14; James 5:13-16). We believe the scriptures
teach that God's desire and design are for the whole person, spiritually,
emotionally and physically, and that the Lord can and does still
intervene in the lives of mankind. Therefore we pray for individuals
according to James 5:13-16.
Ordinances
We believe in two Scriptural ordinances, water
baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper. Christian baptism shall
be administered in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
upon profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour (Matthew 28:19;
Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38, 8:12, 36-39; 10:47, 48; 16:32-34; 18:8; 22:16;
Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12; I Peter 3: 20, 21). The Lord's Supper
is the partaking of the bread and the cup by which believers commemorate
together the dying love of Christ, after solemn self-examination
(I Corinthians 11:23-28; Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-20).
Participation shall not be limited to members, but shall be extended
to all believers present.
Satan
We believe that Satan is a real personality,
created good by God, given power but fallen through pride and become
the father of sin. He is under the sovereignty of God and not His
opposite or equal. He is the archenemy of our souls. We believe
that he will be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire (Job 1:6,7;
Ezekiel 28:14,15; Isaiah 14:12-14; I Peter 5:8; Revelation 20:10).
